Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, has lauded Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng for his courageous decision to accuse former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources Cecilia Dapaah and her husband of money laundering.

According to Kpebu, Agyebeng demonstrated exceptional integrity by pursuing the matter despite his office’s limited mandate to investigate corruption.

Kpebu praised Agyebeng, saying, “He deserves immense commendation for blowing the whistle on Cecilia Dapaah and her husband. He could have easily turned a blind eye, but instead, he chose to speak out, and we should applaud him for a job well done.”

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) had investigated Cecilia Dapaah and her husband Daniel Osei Kufuor for corruption-related offences after a theft incident at their residence.

Although the OSP lacked the authority to prosecute, Agyebeng referred the case to EOCO, suspecting a money laundering scheme. However, EOCO returned the dockets, citing a lack of basis for the referral.

Attorney General Godfred Dame also found no evidence of corruption or procurement breaches against the former minister and her husband.

Meanwhile, a petition for Agyebeng’s removal as Special Prosecutor has been forwarded to the Chief Justice, citing procurement irregularities, misconduct involving judges, and breaches of citizens’ rights.

The Chief Justice is currently assessing whether there is sufficient initial evidence to constitute a committee for Agyebeng’s potential impeachment.

Kpebu’s commendation of Agyebeng highlights the importance of accountability and transparency in the fight against corruption.
