The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has shut down the McDan Aviation Private Jet Terminal due to an outstanding debt exceeding $3 million. This debt includes land leases, rentals, and terminal charges, which remained unpaid despite a deadline set for the Christmas period.

This closure is the second time McDan Aviation’s operations have been halted. In February 2022, GACL indefinitely barred the company from using Terminal 1 at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) due to operational breaches.

McDan Aviation inaugurated its private jet services on January 28, 2022, but failed to meet critical requirements set by airport authorities. Just days later, on January 31, 2022, GACL ordered the company to cease operations at Terminal 1. The directive, signed by former Managing Director Yaw Kwakwa, highlighted non-compliance with operational terms and conditions.

The GACL further instructed McDan Aviation to return the terminal’s keys for a joint inventory. The directive was communicated to key government officials, including the Secretary to the President, the Vice President’s Secretary, the Minister of Transport, and the Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

The 2022 launch event was boycotted by key industry stakeholders, including Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah and GACL officials, due to concerns about McDan Aviation’s operations.

Despite the earlier suspension and ongoing issues, the company’s inability to settle its debt has resulted in the latest closure of the private jet terminal.
