A 25-year-old mechanic, Eric Boampong, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Asante Akropong Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District.

Boampong was found guilty of attacking and robbing Roudy Aboagye Agyemang, a level 400 student at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED).

Boampong pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Mrs. Gloria Mensah Bonsu.

According to Police Detective Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu, the incident occurred at Abrafo Kokobeng, near Akropong, where the complainant resides. Boampong, a resident of Atwima Koforidua, was arrested in connection with the crime.

He said, that on January 10, this year, at about 2:00 am, the convict broke into the room of the complainant while she was asleep.

The prosecution said the complainant woke up and saw the convict trying to take away her iPhone 7, valued at GH¢1,200.
