The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of the defunct gold dealership Menzgold has intensified its calls for a government-led financial bailout, nearly six years after the company’s collapse.
Unable to recover their investments since Menzgold was shut down in September 2018, the customers have formally requested a meeting with President Nana Akufo-Addo on September 12, 2024, to present a petition and address their concerns.
In an interview with Citi Business News, Fredrick Forson, the Public Relations Officer of the Coalition, highlighted the urgency of government intervention to alleviate the financial losses they have suffered.
“We want to get the president’s attention and have him commit to giving us a financial bailout. We are aware that the matter is before the court but we believe that His Excellency the President has the prerogative to give us a bailout just as it has been done to other affected customers in the financial sector bailout.
“Recently the minister of finance came out and said that the president had instructed that GHȼ1.5 billion should be released to pay off those who were affected by the financial sector cleanup. We were equally affected and so we want the same offer to be extended to us.”
