Mike Oquaye Jnr, the parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has refuted claims suggesting he was seen washing a constituent’s undergarments in a viral video from his door-to-door campaign.
He insists the video, which allegedly shows him washing what appears to be underwear, is fabricated and circulated by his rivals to smear his reputation for their political gain.

On Thursday, April 18, 2024, Mike Oquaye Jnr took to Facebook to address rumors about a video depicting him washing clothes during his door-to-door campaign.
He clarified that the video was manipulated to tarnish his image, stating that he actually helped a constituent wash jeans shorts, not underwear.
Oquaye Jnr expressed frustration with the spread of misinformation, questioning the motives behind such actions.
He questioned whether the misinformation stemmed from a desire to deceive and fabricate sensational news.
Mike Oquaye Jnr, the NPP parliamentary candidate, expressed no remorse for assisting his constituent with her laundry, viewing it as a means to connect with and secure the support of his community.
He cited examples of renowned politicians, such as the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, who engaged in similar acts to gain the favor of the Ghanaian populace.
The woman he assisted in the widely circulated video stopped her laundry work to join him in his door-to-door campaign, impressed by his actions.
“THE WOMAN I ENGAGED WITH AND WASHED CLOTHES WITH SAYS SHE LOVED IT, SHE LOVES MY HUMILITY AND WILL VOTE FOR ME. You are sitting on social media and talking plenty. In fact, as for the lady I chatted and washed with, she left the rest of her washing and followed me from house to house.”
The video depicted Oquaye Jnr deeply engaged in an act of service, leaning over a basin of water to launder clothes alongside a woman from his electoral district.
This action has sparked conversations on social platforms regarding the extents politicians are willing to go to secure votes in the lead-up to elections.
