Mike Oquaye Jr., the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, has demanded the suspension of the collation process in the constituency following security concerns and reported chaos at the collation center.

In an exclusive interview with Richard Sky on Channel One TV, Oquaye claimed that supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stormed the collation center, vandalizing election materials, including pink sheets, and causing widespread disruption.

He stated that the NDC supporters justified their actions by claiming that the NDC had won the parliamentary seat, referencing John Mahama’s victory in the presidential race.

The disturbances reportedly led to violence, including an attack on an NDC constituency executive member, and prompted security officials and other stakeholders to flee the scene. Oquaye further alleged that Electoral Commission (EC) officials were held hostage during the chaos.

Oquaye expressed concerns that the collation process resumed without NPP representatives present, raising questions about the fairness and security of the ongoing exercise.

” I heard on the live stream of one of the TV stations that tabulation has started. First of all, we hadn’t been invited after everything was scattered, secondly, that place was not safe.

“The simple thing that should be done is, the process must be halted until the safety of all the agents are guaranteed. If you tell us you are moving to a region and you change your mind, you must tell us. We must be present and you must guarantee our safety”, he stated.
