The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has expressed concern over media reports suggesting that military personnel have been deployed to the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) to interfere with Parliament’s proceedings during its Fifth Meeting of the Fourth Session.

GAF categorically states that these reports are false and should be disregarded, as they harm the reputation of the armed forces.
On October 21, 2024, the Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Albert Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, officially requested security assistance from GAF for routine canine and bomb sweeps of the Chamber through the Clerk of Parliament.
This standard procedure is performed on the first sitting day of the week, typically on Tuesdays, whenever Members of Parliament convene outside the traditional Parliament House.
It is crucial to clarify that GAF personnel were present at the Grand Arena solely for these routine safety checks, ensuring that no explosive devices or harmful substances were in the facility.
GAF is dedicated to the safety and welfare of all citizens and will continue to undertake assignments aimed at securing public spaces.
The GAF also urges media outlets to avoid spreading false information and to report responsibly on matters of public interest.
