The military comprising of top senior officers has again staged a coup in another African country.
This development is coming weeks after the coup which took place in Niger Republic by the Presidential guard.
The coupist appeared on national television and announced the takeover from the democratic government.
The officers said in a broadcast they had cancelled the elections, dissolved all state institutions and the country’s border closed.
They said they represented all security and defense forces of Gabon.
The coup leader annulled the outcome of Saturday’s election, where the incumbent President, Ali Bongo, was declared re-elected and winner of the poll
According to the electoral commission, Bongo won under two-thirds of the total votes cast, but the opposition has argued that the poll was fraudulent.
Bongo came into power after the death of his father in 2009 and the development would end the 53-year hold on power by the Bongo family in Gabon.
