Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised to establish a Mining Development Bank if he wins this year’s presidential election. This initiative is part of his broader plan to enhance Ghana’s mining sector.

In a Facebook post following engagements with chiefs, youth, and stakeholders in the Jirapa, Sissala East, and West constituencies, Dr. Bawumia remarked that despite decades of mining activities in Ghana, the country has not fully reaped the benefits it should.
In his various engagements with chiefs, youth, and stakeholders in the Jirapa, Sissala East, and West constituencies, Dr. Bawumia outlined his new mining policies, including the creation of a Mining Development Bank.
He also promised to provide resources to the Geological Survey Department to support major exploration efforts.
“I will be ensuring 100% Ghanaian ownership of proven reserves earmarked for small-scale mining, establishment of plant pools in mining areas to promote shared user facilities, decentralizing the mining lincensing regime to all mining districts, and promotion of licenced community mining schemes to create more jobs and wealthy Ghanaians.”
