The Minority Caucus on the Appointments Committee of Parliament in Ghana has boycotted the vetting of Kofi Ahenkorah-Marfo, the Deputy Trade and Industry Minister-designate, scheduled for today, July 2.

The boycott is in response to the country’s ongoing economic difficulties, including a debt crisis, high taxes, and businesses relocating from Ghana.

The Minority members, led by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, argue that instead of adding new ministers, the government should downsize to signal an awareness of the economic hardships faced by ordinary Ghanaians.

They believe participating in the vetting process would further burden the people and show support for the government’s perceived reckless financial decisions.
