The Minority in Parliament has voiced concerns over the delay in President John Dramani Mahama’s submission of the remaining Deputy Ministerial nominees for approval.

During the swearing-in of new deputy ministers on March 12, the President assured that the final list would be presented within a week. However, by Tuesday, March 18, the nominations had still not been submitted.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin criticized the unfulfilled promise and questioned the delay.

“The president, whose government business you lead in this chamber, promised that he would submit the names of the deputy ministerial nominees. He made this promise last week,” he stated.

“He said in course of the week, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, today is Tuesday. What is going on? What is going on? It’s your duty. If you want to litigate it, litigate it. But your promises made must be kept,” Afenyo-Markin said.

In response, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga argued that the President could not be held accountable in Parliament for statements made outside its proceedings.
