Mohammed Kassim has been overwhelmingly confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa West, earning all 54 ‘Yes’ votes in a confirmation election held at the District Assembly in Apam on Friday, April 11.

The confirmation followed Kassim’s nomination by President John Dramani Mahama and saw participation from 54 assembly members and government appointees. His resounding endorsement sparked jubilation among party supporters and stakeholders who filled the assembly hall.

The ceremony was graced by a host of dignitaries, including Hakeem Addae, Council of State Representative for the Central Region; Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin; Deputy Minister for Energy and MP for Gomoa West, Richard Gyan-Mensah; and traditional leaders led by Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI, Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council.

Also in attendance were Adu Yeboah, Central Regional President of the Ghana Bar Association; former DCE Theophilus Adu-Mensah; constituency chairmen from the NDC’s Central Region; the DCE for Ekumfi, Ishmael Nana Asamoah; and several party executives.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Kassim, a two-term NDC Gomoa West constituency chairman, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the trust placed in him and emphasized the need for unity. “A district seeking development cannot succeed with a divisive front,” he stated. “I will be a DCE for all.”

He pledged to engage in broad consultations with stakeholders in the coming days, highlighting inclusive leadership and collective input as keys to the district’s development.

Central Regional Minister Ekow Panyin applauded the overwhelming endorsement, describing it as a testament to Kassim’s leadership and commitment.

“The number of votes polled by the new DCE means expectations are very high. He must deliver and unite the people. It is only through unity that we can achieve the development we all desire,” he stated.

The Deputy Minister for Energy and MP for Gomoa West, Richard Gyan-Mensah also welcomed the DCE’s message of unity.

“Just as the new DCE has pledged to serve all, I will also continue to be an MP for all. Together, we will work hard to develop our constituency,” he said.

Mr. Kassim is expected to assume office immediately and begin work on key development priorities for the district.
