Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus has been nominated for the 2024 FIFA Puskas Award following his breathtaking solo goal against Freiburg in the Europa League last season.

The 22-year-old’s spectacular strike, which showcased remarkable skill, pace, and vision, has captured the admiration of football fans and experts worldwide. His goal has been shortlisted among the finest strikes of the year, placing him in contention for the highly coveted award.

Kudus’ moment of brilliance began when he picked up the ball at the halfway line, skillfully dribbling past multiple defenders with agility and precision before firing a powerful shot with his weaker foot, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.

The goal has already earned Kudus West Ham United’s Goal of the Season, and his inclusion in the Puskas Award shortlist solidifies his growing reputation as one of football’s brightest talents.

He joins other African players, including Nigeria’s Paul Onuachu, Uganda’s Dennis Omedi, and Algeria’s Yassine Benzia, who have also gained recognition for their stunning goals. Kudus’ nomination is a proud moment for Ghana and African football as he competes for this prestigious global accolade.

Meanwhile, Manchester Unoited’s Alejandro Garnacho’s acrobatic overhead kick against Everton and Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco’s unbelievable goal from just outside the circle against Frosinone have also been nominated for the top award.

Hassan Al Haydos of Qatar, Terry Antonis of Australia, Walter Bou of Argentina, Michaell Chirinos of Honduras and Hull City’s Jaden Philogene complete the list.

The winner will be presented with the award at the FIFA Awards in January 2025.
