West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus has been appointed captain of the Black Stars for Ghana’s 2025 AFCON qualification match against Sudan, scheduled for Thursday, October 10, at 16:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This was confirmed by Black Stars head coach Otto Addo during a pre-match press conference ahead of the team’s final training session.
Kudus, who has become one of the key players in the current squad, steps into this leadership role due to the absence of regular captains Thomas Partey and Andre Dede Ayew.
Ghana will play the second leg of the tie in Benghazi, Libya, on Monday, October 14.
Kudus’ appointment as captain comes in the wake of Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku’s strong criticism of the team, including Kudus, following a 1-0 loss to Angola and a 1-1 draw with Niger.
In his address, Okraku reminded the players of the longstanding history and importance of the national team, saying, “When Kudus you were not born, this team existed.”
Ghana must win at least one of the two fixtures against Sudan to keep their hopes alive for qualification to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
