Several supporters of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s Movement for Change in the Central Region have defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the 2024 elections approach.
At a press conference in Cape Coast on Tuesday, October 8, over 100 members announced their departure from the Movement for Change, citing the NPP’s extensive developmental projects across the country as a key factor in their decision.

The group, which previously backed Kyerematen during the presidential primaries, expressed their belief that the NPP’s flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has a stronger chance of winning the upcoming elections. They are now committed to working towards the party’s victory.
Francis Edzie, the leader of the group and now the polling station secretary for the NPP in the Twi-Ndzi-Twi Jejem electoral area of the Cape Coast South Constituency, stated that they have responded to calls from Dr. Bawumia’s national campaign team and are confident that their choice aligns with the best interests of the NPP.
“We, the campaign team members of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen during the presidential primaries, have gathered here today to make our intention known. We followed Alan Kyerematen to the Movement for Change but have decided to return to our mother party after advice from the national campaign of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”
“The NPP has done a lot in terms of developmental projects in its eight years in office. We want the NPP to continue with its progress, and so we have decided to support the party. We declare to support the party with our able strength for the betterment of us all with Dr. Bawumia becoming President in 2025,” he said.
