Channel One News can confirm that the Office of the President has received two additional petitions seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo from office.
These latest filings bring the total number of removal petitions against the Chief Justice to five. The earlier petitions were submitted on February 14 and March 17, 2025, by separate individuals.

All five petitions reportedly allege misconduct and abuse of power. While the specific details remain confidential, sources indicate that the Chief Justice has been formally served with the documents.
This development follows the Council of State’s recent determination of a prima facie case in one of the earlier petitions, prompting President John Dramani Mahama to suspend Chief Justice Torkornoo pending further proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has urged the President to reverse the suspension, describing the action as unconstitutional.
Former Deputy Attorney-General, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, for example, called for a fair and thorough examination of the petitions filed against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo seeking her removal.
