Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has warned the government of impending nationwide protests if it proceeds with the controversial sale of a 60% stake in four SSNIT hotels to Rock City.

This comes after Employment Minister Ignatius Baffour Awuah revealed in parliament that the NPRA had given SSNIT the green light to proceed with the sale, despite initial directives to suspend the process.

Ablakwa, who has been a vocal critic of the sale, challenged the NPRA to publish the outcome of their review if they are confident in its legitimacy.

He demanded transparency and public scrutiny, threatening nationwide demonstrations and strikes in collaboration with organized labor if the transaction proceeds.

The lawmaker argued that the sale is “obnoxious” and lacks transparency, and vowed to continue the resistance against it.

The sale has sparked widespread controversy, with many calling for transparency and accountability in the management of SSNIT’s assets.

Ablakwa’s warning of nationwide protests has added to the pressure on the government to reconsider the sale, which has been criticized by various stakeholders, including civil society organizations and workers’ unions.

The government’s next move on the issue is keenly awaited, as the controversy continues to simmer.
