Sarah Adwoa Safo, the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, addressed Parliament on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, urging the Ministry of Youth and Sports to adopt a more inclusive investment strategy.

She emphasized that Ghana’s sporting landscape extends beyond football, and it’s essential to recognize and support other disciplines.

Adwoa Safo stressed that while football remains a beloved sport, the country’s focus on it is disproportionate.

She argued that investing in emerging sports like table tennis, basketball, running, and American football can uncover hidden talents and provide opportunities for athletes to secure academic scholarships.

The MP drew parallels with Nigeria’s success in basketball, highlighting how their students have secured scholarships to study in the USA and Canada.

She encouraged Ghana to follow suit, diversifying its sports development landscape to cater to a broader range of athletes and disciplines.

By expanding investment beyond football, Adwoa Safo believes Ghana can unlock the potential of its youth and create a more vibrant sporting ecosystem.

Her call to action echoes the need for a more comprehensive approach to sports development, one that acknowledges the value of diverse sporting disciplines.
