A former First Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party in the Central Region, Joe Donkor has disclosed how some Members of Parliament (MPs) from the same party used to approach the office of Mr Kennedy Agyepong, who is the NPP’s Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region, for financial assistance to enable them execute some constituency projects.
Mr. Donkor also emphasized that many of the MPs on the majority side have benefited from Mr Kennedy Agyepong’s financial support.
Speaking further, he alleged that these very MPs are now attempting to undermine Mr Kennedy Agyepong because he is contesting Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia in the race to become the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
He singled out the Majority Leader and MP for Suame in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, as one of the beneficiaries of Agyepong’s financial assistance.however, he did not mention any other name who benefited from Mr Kennedy Agyepong.
According to Donkor, Mr. Mensah-Bonsu approached Mr Agyepong for a loan of two million Ghana Cedis to finance a project in his constituency.
He explained that when the Common Fund allocations for the MPs were delayed, they would all turn to Mr Agyepong for a loan, which they would repay once the Common Fund allocations were received in their bank accounts.
He stated that Mr Kennedy Agyepong had been helping these MPs without charging any interest on the loans he gives to them
He expressed worry over an attempt to tarnish the image of Mr Agyepong by some members of the party despite his generosity. All this is happening because of his presidential ambition and a statement he made challenging both the president and vice president without taking any interest on the loans he provided to MPs.
Donkor further hinted that there are more stories to be told about the NPP’s Special Delegates’ Conference, which resulted in Vice President Dr. Bawumia winning and Mr. Alan Kyerematen’s subsequent withdrawal from the November 4 race.
