Bishop Salifu Amoako, a prominent religious leader and father of the 16-year-old involved in the tragic accident that claimed the lives of two girls in East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024, has called on Ghanaians to stop discussing the incident.

Defending his son, Bishop Amoako stressed that the event was a tragic accident, not an intentional act of violence.

The incident, which resulted in the deaths of the girls, has gained widespread attention due to Bishop Amoako’s prominence.

Speaking at Alive Chapel International on Sunday, October 20, the bishop expressed his frustration with the public outcry, emphasizing that his son did not commit murder but was involved in an unfortunate accident.

“It was an accident,” Bishop Amoako said. “My son didn’t take a gun to kill anyone. He was involved in a terrible accident, and I didn’t cause it, nor did his mother. People are only talking because of my name.”

He argued that the intense public scrutiny was due to his high profile. “If this had been a simple motorcycle accident, would it be talked about? It’s only because it’s linked to me, so let’s wait and see what God will do.”

The accident occurred when the boy, driving a Jaguar, crashed, causing a fire that tragically trapped and killed the two girls.

The case has sparked widespread media discussions, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the event.

Bishop Amoako also condemned the attack on a reporter from EIB Network by some church members after court proceedings on Thursday.

He urged for compassion and understanding, calling for the community to reflect on the incident from all perspectives.

“Control yourselves, ACI family. I urge you to have self-control. Some of you came to the court to disgrace me there. You didn’t behave wisely. You have added more battles to my battles already. What you came to do at the court is very disgraceful. You shouldn’t have done that.

“Do you know the damage you have done in my life? Now I am fighting what has happened to me and the media is fighting me. The case is now in the court. We don’t go to court to fight, but we go there to interpret the law.

“Some of you were lucky that you were not arrested. Some of you went there to mess up. By now, you should be in jail. So I don’t expect any one of you, I have not called you to come and fight for me. Now listen to me, I have not called you to come and fight for me,” he stated.
