Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged members and aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to maintain decorum ahead of the party’s presidential primaries set for January 2026.

Addressing over 490 youth organisers including substantive and deputy youth leaders from constituencies across the country, who presented his nomination forms on Wednesday, August 13, Dr. Bawumia appealed to aspirants and their supporters to avoid trading insults during the campaign.

“This flagbearership race must be conducted with respect. We’re not in a campaign of insults; it should be about ideas — the kind that will capture the imagination of Ghanaians. What are we bringing to the table? How will we solve the challenges facing the country?” he said.

He warned that personal attacks could harm the party’s image and provide ammunition to political opponents.

“When we bring others down, we bring down the party. Opponents will take those messages and use them against us. I will never insult any aspirant because, after this primary, we have a general election to win. If we divide ourselves now, unity later will be difficult,” he cautioned.

Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the campaign should begin and end with unity, stressing that such solidarity would be crucial to securing victory in the 2028 general elections.
