The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has presented emergency relief items to families displaced by violent clashes in Gbiniyiri and nearby communities in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region. The affected persons are currently seeking refuge at the Sawla District Police Headquarters.

The relief package included cups, blankets, buckets, tents, and plates, aimed at easing the hardships of those who have lost their homes and belongings in the conflict.
Savannah Regional Director of NADMO, Mahama Zakaria, who received the items on behalf of the displaced families, said the intervention was to provide immediate support and improve living conditions at the temporary shelter.
He noted that the facility has already accommodated more than 200 people and remains prepared to host additional victims if the situation worsens.
The clashes, which broke out earlier this week, are reported to have been triggered by a disputed land transaction allegedly involving the Chief of Gbiniyiri. The violence, between Gonja and Brifo factions, left several homes and properties destroyed, forcing residents to flee for safety.
In addition to NADMO’s support, the Ghana Red Cross Society has set up a temporary tent at the Sawla Police Headquarters to provide shelter for displaced women and children. Health personnel have also been deployed to the camp to deliver medical care to the injured and vulnerable.
Local authorities have assured that security agencies are working to restore calm in the affected areas, even as humanitarian agencies continue to assist the displaced.
