The office of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, widely known as NAPO and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice-presidential candidate, has refuted reports alleging that NAPO promised to return confiscated excavators to their owners.

This response comes after a viral video surfaced, claiming NAPO said, “We will give everyone their excavator to work on their concession to generate income and support the economic development of their communities.”

In a statement issued on Wednesday, NAPO’s spokesperson, Fiifi Boafo, clarified that during a community engagement at Bogoso in the Prestea Huni Valley Constituency on Sunday, September 8, 2024, NAPO discussed the NPP’s plans to support small-scale mining under strict regulations that prioritize environmental protection.

Boafo stressed that the statement circulating is false, pointing out that the full 20-minute video of NAPO’s speech contains no such remark.

“A doctored TikTok video being circulated as the source of the claim does not reflect the actual statement made by the Vice-Presidential Candidate.”

“We wish to clarify that Dr. Prempeh spoke about granting access to individuals interested in small-scale mining, provided it is done responsibly and sustainably, in line with Ghana’s laws,” Boafo further highlighted.

He urged the public to disregard the misleading reports.
