Fiifi Boafo, spokesperson for NPP running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, clarified that Dr. Prempeh’s call for traditional leaders to participate in political discussions is not unlawful.

He explained that this appeal is not about aligning chiefs with any political party but rather about involving them in discussions on resource management and development strategies.

This follows Dr. Prempeh’s encouragement for traditional leaders across Ghana to take an active role in the country’s political affairs.

During a meeting with chiefs in Nungua, Dr. Prempeh emphasized the importance of their input in shaping national policies.

On Eyewitness News, Fiifi Boafo underscored that traditional and religious leaders have significant influence, and their engagement is essential for national progress.

“For us to develop as a people, there is the need for us to have our traditional authority, religious leaders to come on board as partners to help us develop. One of the things we consider as a difficulty in terms of governance is a lack of respect for authority or even coming on board to help our country.

So, if we have some sections of our society who when they speak, people come on board and listen to them and act on it, it will be very important for us to have them join us in formulating the policies that will help us develop as a people and then in canvassing support in the implementations of those politics.

So, this is only a call that we cannot let such a key stakeholder in our country sit on the fence but rather have them participate fully in the development of our country,” he stated.

Dr. Prempeh’s spokesperson highlighted that, although traditional authorities currently have a limited role in resource management, it is important to integrate their voices into national policies.

The goal, he explained, is to ensure that resource allocation and development strategies reflect a broader consensus, incorporating traditional perspectives.
