On the evening of Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, declared, “The sighting of the moon of the Shawwal has been announced by the Chief Imam to you and the entire country. Therefore, tomorrow (Wednesday) will be the first day of Shawwal.”
Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, the spokesperson, stated that the Hilal Committee has confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal crescent in several communities in Ghana.

These include Kenyasi in the Ashanti Region, Fulani Kope in the Volta Region, Walewale in the North East Region, and Tamale and Savlugu in the Northern Region.
The beginning and end of Ramadan are determined by the committee’s sightings.
The 2024 Eid-al-Fitr will be celebrated on Thursday, April 11, 2024, even though Wednesday is the first day of Shawwal.
“But given the fact that according to our arrangements, announcements have been made already to the government and Thursday has been declared as a national holiday; the Chief Imam would announce to us that we will break the fast tomorrow, and then on Thursday, we will gather at Independence Square in unity to celebrate Eid-al-Fitr 2024,” added Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, speaking on behalf of the Chief Imam.
