The National Peace Council and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) have strongly condemned the vandalism at the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Damongo, Savannah Region.
Angry youth, frustrated by the delay in the declaration of election results, set the EC office on fire, causing extensive damage to the building and its contents. Eyewitnesses reported that the youth stormed the office and ignited the blaze. The suspects involved in the incident have since been arrested.

In a joint statement, the National Peace Council and WANEP expressed their concern over the incident, stating, “The National Peace Council (NPC), the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), and other partners in the Election Situation Room are aware of reports that the Electoral Commission (EC) office and collation centre in Damongo, Savannah Region, has been vandalized and set ablaze.”
It called on the political supporters to withdraw from the collation centres and allow their accredited agents to observe the collation process.
“It is essential that political supporters withdraw from the collation centres and allow their accredited agents to observe the collation process. The NPC calls on party leaders to make a public call on their supporters to withdraw from collation centres.
“The NPC calls on all sides to allow Electoral Commission personnel to carry out their duties with professionalism and integrity in order to deliver a free, fair and transparent election.”
