The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region has pledged to resist any attempts by opponents and security forces to interfere with the electoral process in the upcoming December polls.

At a campaign rally in the Old Tafo Constituency, Nana Akwasi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, made several allegations against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its regional leader, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi. Nana Akwasi accused Chairman Wontumi of using financial incentives to influence members of his own party, escalating tensions between the two major political parties in the region.

“Your party is unpopular and when you go anywhere in your own stronghold, you don’t get people following you. You want to be in the news so you’ve gone to pay people to remove our branded shirts and wear that of the NPP. Now even if you give out the NPP shirt to anyone for free, nobody likes to take it.

“Even if you add money, they still reject it. We are sending this message to him that if he wants to campaign, he should focus on that. I am sending a strong warning to him. If he does the same, the aftermath will not be pleasant,” he stated.
