The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for a thorough, multi-stakeholder, and inter-party examination of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) IT system.

This demand comes in light of the EC’s admissions regarding significant vulnerabilities and discrepancies in the 2024 Provisional Voters Register.

During a Special Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on October 1, 2024, the EC acknowledged critical issues, including illegal voter transfers, erroneous additions to the transfer list, and the presence of corrupted files in the provisional register.

The EC also admitted that its IT system is vulnerable to data manipulation and infiltration by both authorized and unauthorized personnel with access to login credentials.

In response, the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) stressed the urgent need for a comprehensive review of the EC’s IT infrastructure.

The party believes that addressing these vulnerabilities is essential to ensuring the integrity of the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections.

“FEC further welcomes the decision by the Electoral Commission to re-exhibit the updated Provisional Voters Register. We however recommend that the re-exhibition exercise should be conducted online and offline at the exhibition centres.”

“Additionally, the NDC demands a multi-stakeholder and interparty examination of the IT system of the Electoral Commission with the aim of addressing the vulnerabilities that the EC itself has admitted to, which vulnerabilities led to several of the anomalies we have raised.

“Clearly, the vulnerabilities in the IT system of the Electoral Commission can be exploited by criminals to compromise the integrity of the December 07, 2024 elections if not addressed,” the NDC stated in a statement issued on Tuesday.
