The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has annulled the parliamentary primary results for the Amenfi Central Constituency, initially held on May 13, 2023, and has ordered a rerun.

This decision was made by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) in response to ongoing litigation at the Sekondi High Court.

In a statement, the NDC announced, “The party has decided to annul the election and hold a rerun.

Thus, the parliamentary primaries conducted on May 13, 2023, in Amenfi Central are hereby annulled.”

Earlier this year, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, was barred by the Sekondi High Court from presenting herself as the party’s candidate.

This action followed allegations of forged voter ID and NDC party card.

On May 31, Justice G.K. Gyan-Kontoh issued an interlocutory injunction preventing Ms. Cudjoe from claiming to be the duly elected NDC parliamentary candidate until a final court decision is reached.

This injunction was granted in response to a suit filed by five NDC members challenging her victory in the party’s 2023 primaries.

The applicants—Gyedu Frimpong, Akubilla Daniel, Enock Ntiamoh, Isaac Twum, and Doris Aidoo—had sued Ms. Cudjoe, the NDC, and the Electoral Commission.

In addition, the NDC has suspended the constituency executives for alleged anti-party behavior.
