The Ejisu by-election, held on April 30, was marked by controversy when fake letters emerged, allegedly from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) headquarters, directing support for independent candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi.

However, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey promptly debunked the letters as forgeries, stating, “It’s fake; we saw it yesterday, and I can assure you nothing like that has occurred.”

The letters, circulated by pro-NPP social media accounts and former NDC Deputy General Secretary Samuel Koku Anyidoho, claimed the NDC was adopting a strategy to undermine the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) chances. Anyidoho criticized the party for supposedly supporting an independent candidate.

In reality, the NDC never supported any independent candidate. The by-election, necessitated by the passing of sitting MP John Kumah in March 2024, saw NPP candidate Kwabena Boateng emerge victorious with 55.8% of the total votes cast. He has been declared MP-elect.

The final results from all 204 polling stations are as follows:

  • Esther Osei (CPP) – 0.2% (89 votes)
  • Kwabena Boateng (NPP) – 55.8% (27,772 votes)
  • Beatrice Boakye (LPG) – 0.3% (149 votes)
  • Kwabena Owusu Aduomi (IND) – 43.3% (21,534 votes)
  • Joseph Agyeman Fredua (IND) – 0.4% (222 votes)
  • Joseph Attakora (IND) – 0.0% (23 votes)
  • Voter turnout – 49.1%
