The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mining Committee has firmly denied accusations from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that it is recruiting thugs in the Obuasi East Constituency ahead of the December 7, 2024 elections.

The allegations were made by NPP National Organiser Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, who claimed the NDC was secretly organizing private security training under the guise of legitimate activities in the area.
Samuel Hadjor, the Secretary of the NDC Mining Committee, swiftly dismissed the allegations as unfounded and urged the public to ignore them. He assured that the NDC is committed to ensuring peaceful elections and rejected any attempts to damage the party’s reputation.
Mr. Hadjor explained that the NDC Mining Committee had held a public mining conference at Mawuli Hotel in Obuasi on November 12, 2024, to discuss the party’s mining policy with stakeholders.
The event, which was widely advertised, was attended by dignitaries such as former Ashanti Regional Minister Alexander Ackon and former MCE for Obuasi Richard Kwasi Ofori Buadi.
He further pointed out that the NPP’s claims were baseless, as the event coincided with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign tour in the area, making it a well-known and open gathering covered by major media outlets.
Hadjor suggested that the NPP’s accusations stemmed from fear and frustration, as the party struggles to regain support in mining communities, with the NDC’s mining policy gaining traction among miners and small-scale operators.
The NDC official reiterated the party’s commitment to a peaceful election process and called on Ghanaians to focus on the issues rather than baseless propaganda.
He also urged miners to support the NDC’s vision for a reformed mining sector that prioritizes the welfare of miners and their communities.
As the election campaign heats up, both parties continue to intensify their efforts, adding to the already tense pre-election atmosphere.
