George Opare Addo, the National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), also known as Pablo, has criticized the current state of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, calling it “a mess.”

In an interview on Point Blank, a segment of Eyewitness News, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Pablo outlined the NDC’s plans for education reform if the party wins the upcoming general elections.

He highlighted the NDC’s strong track record in advancing quality education, citing achievements such as eliminating schools under trees and the shift system at the basic education level during past NDC administrations.

Pablo assured Ghanaians that the NDC is committed to addressing the challenges facing the Free SHS policy. He promised that the party would improve its implementation, ensuring better outcomes for students and more effectively meeting the country’s educational needs.

“The NDC has a track record of providing quality education. During our time, we eradicated schools under trees at the basic level. We ended the shift system. We have a track record and we have shown the good people of this country that we know the benefit of free education. We will not rush and introduce policies that we cannot implement.

“We will do things right and we will fix free SHS. As we stand today, free SHS is a mess. When you supply school children with expired food. Some of the foods that are being served to our children, [you will not even serve it to your dogs]. These are the challenges that we are talking about. We will 4imporve on it and make it better,” he stated.
