Eric Adjei, Deputy Bono Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned that Dr. Peter Appiahene’s continued tenure at the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) may have detrimental consequences for the country.

Adjei argues that Dr. Appiahene, a known member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and deputy EC commissioner, has not demonstrated impartiality since his appointment.

He points to Dr. Appiahene’s recent appearance at an NPP campaign event for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) as evidence of his bias.

Adjei believes this behavior is problematic, stating, “They’re creating a future monster.” He questions why Dr. Appiahene, as a deputy EC commissioner, would attend a political campaign event, especially given his role as a lecturer and department head at UENR.

Adjei notes that even the Bible cautions against doing everything one is allowed to do, implying that some actions may not be wise or ethical.

In response, Gabriel Korang Ababio, Bono Regional Communication Officer for the NPP, defended Dr. Appiahene’s attendance at the campaign event, citing his role as a university representative.

Ababio accused the NDC of hypocrisy, pointing out that they had also appointed party members to EC positions during their tenure.
