Madam Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah, the presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has voiced her opposition to the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) request for an audit of the 2024 Provisional Voter Register.

The NDC has been advocating for an audit before the December elections, arguing that the current voter register is inadequate. However, the Electoral Commission has assured that it will address any discrepancies found, aiming to ensure a credible register for the elections. It has previously stated that the NDC did not fully utilize established processes and that a forensic audit is unnecessary.
In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Face to Face on Channel One TV, Madam Frimpomaa expressed concern about the timing of the audit request, particularly given the proximity to the elections. She highlighted that the laws governing the Electoral Commission (EC) include an auditing process, and she rejected any actions that might send negative signals about Ghana to the international community.
“I did not support either NDC or NPP; I don’t support NDC or NPP. I support the people of this country. My view is simple: we have how many weeks until the elections? I don’t think this is the right time for an external audit of the register,” she stated.
She emphasized that the Constitution and the EC’s by-laws provide opportunities for auditing and that creating a sense of panic among the public is not beneficial.
“The situation of panic to the people, making it seem as if Ghana is ready for war, might not be the best,” she added.
In a statement released on October 8, the Electoral Commission refuted claims by the NDC that it had promised to make the revised Provisional Voter Register (PVR) available within a week after the televised special meeting with political parties and civil society organizations on October 1, 2024.
