The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bantama Constituency has expressed determination to claim the historically NPP-dominated constituency in the 2024 elections.

David Kwasi Hededzi, the NDC Chairman for Bantama, voiced this optimism during an appearance on The Community Forum on Channel One TV.

He attributed the NDC’s confidence to growing dissatisfaction among voters with the performance of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NDC chairman assured constituents of the party’s commitment to addressing local concerns and delivering development should they gain their trust in the upcoming elections.

“We are taking over Bantama Constituency this time around. This is because Ghanaians are fed up with the lies of the NPP. So, the Ashanti Region this time around has decided to back the NDC,” he stated.

Hededzi pointed to economic hardships and alleged strategic lapses in the NPP’s governance as key reasons for the constituency’s shifting political sentiment.

According to Hededzi, the NPP’s recent infrastructural efforts in the constituency come too late to restore public confidence, which he said, will not work.

“Those who say the NPP is winning are typically from that party. So, regardless of what you say, they are going to vote for them. But the majority of people in Bantama are saying that had it not been this election, there wouldn’t have been any construction of roads.

“They came into government for eight years, but after two to three months for them to leave office, they are now busily constructing the roads in Bantama. They have not finished but we know the strategy of the NPP.

“They will start something for you to know that they have started, right after the election, they will leave every project they are doing. We all feel the pain of the economic hardship here and the majority are saying that they are fed up with the NPP,” he stated.

The Bantama Constituency has traditionally been a stronghold for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). In the 2020 parliamentary elections, the current Member of Parliament, Francis Asenso-Boakye, secured 58,972 votes, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Joseph Amo, garnered 7,187 votes.

In the presidential election, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo received 57,360 votes from Bantama, compared to his opponent, John Mahama, who polled 8,954 votes.

For the 2024 elections, the contest in Bantama will feature the incumbent MP, Francis Asenso-Boakye, facing off against the NDC’s new parliamentary candidate, Adae Kojo Dapaah.
