Social media users have heavily criticized John Dumelo, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West-Wuogon, for his remarks against NPP MP Lydia Seyram Alhassan during TV3’s community manifesto on Wednesday, August 28.

While discussing his vision and policies for the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency, Dumelo was interrupted by NPP supporters chanting “V8” in reference to the 2017 scandal involving his acquisition of a state-owned Toyota Landcruiser V8, which was later retrieved by National Security Operatives.
Angered by the taunts, Dumelo retaliated by accusing Lydia Seyram Alhassan of killing her husband to secure her seat in Parliament. He stated, “I want to say something.
I can see their supporters mentioning V8, V8, V8. If that is the case, it is also fair to say that maybe Lydia is the one that killed her husband to become MP.
Because if they want to go that tangent, I can also go that same tangent because this time around, it’s booth for booth. You cannot decide to be a bloody widow to be Member of Parliament.”
Dumelo’s comments have sparked backlash on social media, with many users condemning his statement as inappropriate and unbecoming of a leader.
“Oh Charley, he’s really going after John Dumelo hard, politics is wild,” one user remarked.
Another tweeted, “What happened, my brother, @johndumelo?”
In response to the backlash, John Dumelo has since apologized for his remarks against the MP for Ayawaso West-Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.
