As the controversy surrounding Laryea Kingston’s resignation as Black Starlets coach continues to unfold, new details have emerged, including a purported caution letter from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regarding Kingston’s conduct.
According to renowned sports journalist Bright Kankam Boadu, the viral video showing Kingston using offensive language in his address to the players caught the attention of CAF, leading to a notification to the GFA. CAF, which views U-17 players as children who require protection from harmful language and behavior, cited its tournament rules in questioning the GFA about Kingston’s conduct.

Kankam Boadu revealed that when the GFA forwarded the communique to Kingston, he failed to respond.
“CAF sent a letter to the GFA after the video surfaced, querying Kingston’s conduct and referencing FIFA’s code of conduct for players and coaches at this level. The code classifies U-17 players as children and prohibits the use of abusive language. The GFA spoke to Kingston and sent him the letter, but he didn’t respond,” he explained.
Kingston announced his resignation following the team’s defeat to Burkina Faso in the semi-final of the 2024 WAFU Zone B Championship.
In a statement, he said, “As a former player, I made sacrifices for the country, but I wasn’t happy with the outcome. I focused on my coaching career, educated myself, and returned to change the narrative in Ghanaian football. After seven months as Head Coach, I’ve given my all. I decided to resign after the WAFU competition, and the explanation will come later.”
