The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced an additional payment of GH¢1,001,329.00 under the government’s free dialysis program.

This funding covers dialysis services at six health facilities for July and August, with an advance payment for September.
The facilities receiving this support are Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH), Efia Nkwanta Regional Hospital (ENRH), Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH), Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
With this latest payment, the total amount allocated to the free dialysis program since its launch in June now reaches GH¢1,588,565.00.
The latest payment of GH¢1,001,329.00 will cover the cost of dialysis services at health facilities for July and August and includes an advance for September.
Hospitals will use these funds to ensure that patients who paid for dialysis out-of-pocket during these months will be reimbursed according to the approved amounts.

Since the program started in June, the NHIA’s support has made dialysis services more accessible, helping to ease the financial burden on patients and ensure they receive continuous care.
Beneficiaries:
- Patients aged 18 and below, and those 60 and above, will get all eight free dialysis sessions per month under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) starting in June.
- People aged 19 to 59 at KATH, CCTH, ENRH, HTH, and TTH (excluding KBTH) will receive two free dialysis sessions per month.
- Adults (19 to 59) at KBTH will get a 50% discount on two dialysis sessions per month, covering half of the cost.
The NHIA thanks the Government and Parliament for their support in providing quality healthcare for everyone.
Background:
The NHIA recently launched Free Dialysis Coverage for certain vulnerable groups, approved by Parliament as part of the NHIA’s 2024 budget.
This program, starting in June, is funded with GH¢4.4 million, including GH¢2 million from the Allocation Formula and GH¢2.4 million from the NHIA’s Corporate Social Responsibility Budget.
This effort aims to make dialysis treatment more affordable and accessible in Ghana.
