NIA announces new fees for Ghana card services

As of May 1, 2024, the National Identification Authority (NIA) will introduce new fees for various services related to the Ghana Card.

This change is in accordance with the Fees and Charges (Miscellaneous Provisions) Regulations, 2023 (L.I. 2481), passed by Parliament in February 2024. The updated rates apply to three main service areas: First Time Registration, Card Replacement, and Personal Information Update.

The Ghana Card is a secure, multi-purpose card that verifies the biometric identity of its holder for various transactions in both public and private sectors.

Eligible individuals for registration include:

  • Ghanaians by birth, registration, or naturalization aged 0 and above, currently residing in Ghana
  • Ghanaians living abroad
  • Foreign nationals legally and permanently resident in Ghana

The new rates are as follows:

  • First Time Registration:
    • NIA District Office: Free
    • NIA Premium Center: GH¢310
    • ECOWAS sub-region: US$55
    • Rest of Africa: US$75
    • Countries outside Africa: US$115
  • Card Replacement:
    • NIA District Office: GH¢125
    • NIA Premium Center: GH¢420
    • ECOWAS sub-region: US$55
    • Rest of Africa: US$75
    • Countries outside Africa: US$115
  • Personal Information Update:
    • Record Update Only (NIA Regional/District Office): Free
    • Record Update Only (NIA Premium Centre): GH¢310
    • Record Update with replacement of card (NIA Regional/District Office): GH¢60
    • Record Update with replacement of card (NIA Premium Centre): GH¢355
    • Nationality Update (NIA Regional/District Office): GH¢70
    • Nationality Update (NIA Premium Centre): GH¢365

Note that all dollar-denominated charges will be converted to Ghana cedis and paid in full.
