The Divisional Executives Council of the Public Services Workers Union, representing employees of the National Identification Authority (NIA), has officially initiated an industrial strike effective today, October 7, 2024.
In a statement released on Sunday, October 6, the workers expressed their frustration regarding the employer’s failure to implement the newly approved Scheme of Service.

They emphasized that the strike will continue until the agreed-upon scheme is fully enforced, making it clear that they will not return to work until their demands are met.
“After exercising considerable patience and making repeated demands, we regret to announce that the unacceptable failure to operationalize the newly approved Scheme of Service has compelled us to take this decisive action starting Monday, October 7, 2024.
Consequently, all our members will refrain from work until the scheme is fully implemented,” the statement read.
The workers further described the failure to implement the agreed scheme as a blatant breach of trust and a direct attack on their well-being, underscoring their determination to stand firm in their demands.
“The SoS, which was painstakingly approved by PSC within two weeks in record history, in the month of March remains a vital tool for our collective survival and progress. Management’s obstinate refusal to implement this critical document is a blatant betrayal of trust and a direct attack on our well-being.”
