The National Insurance Commission (NIC) and the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service have joined forces to tackle the issue of fake or no motor insurance in the Western Region.

Their recent operation, which covered Axim, Agona Nkwanta, Esiama, and Tikobo, inspected over 500 vehicles and uncovered numerous cases of fake insurance stickers or no insurance.

Justice Peprah Agyei, Western Regional Manager of the NIC, expressed concern over the prevalence of uninsured vehicles on Ghana’s roads, highlighting the devastating impact of motor accidents on families.

He emphasized the importance of motor third-party insurance, which covers legal liability for accidents caused by the insured vehicle.

This type of insurance provides compensation for death, bodily injury, or property damage to third parties, as well as injuries or death of the insured’s household members or occupants.

The operation resulted in the arrest of an insurance agent from the Takoradi DVLA office for issuing fake stickers, and they will face court charges.

ACP Isaac Sorkpah, Axim Divisional Commander, assured the public of the MTTD’s commitment to enforcing the law and collaborating with the NIC and National Road Safety Authority to protect lives and properties.

The joint operation aims to curb the menace of fake or no motor insurance, ensuring that victims of motor accidents receive fair compensation.

By enforcing the law, the NIC and MTTD aim to reduce the risk of road accidents and promote road safety in Ghana.

The NIC and MTTD have reiterated their commitment to continuous collaboration to ensure that all vehicles on Ghana’s roads are insured, reducing the risk of accidents and promoting a safer transportation system.

By working together, they aim to minimize the impact of motor accidents on families and communities across the country.
