Niger armed forces brings in troops to protect its capital

Armed forces of Niger Republic has brought in reinforcements to the capital to prepare for any possible invasion a military source told CNN.

This is coming hours after the military junta running the country refused to abide by an influential regional blocs deadline to cede power

Niger has been thrown into political chaos since late last month when the president was ousted out in a coup by the presidential guard.

A convoy of about 40 military trucks arrived at nightfall on Sunday evening bringing troops from other parts of the country, this move is to reassure the public and to prepare for any potential battle.

The Sunday deadline have come and gone without any change in the political situation and President Bazoum’s whereabout remains unknown to the public.

A Junta leader has said that Niger’s armed forces will be closing their air space due to threat of military intervention from other countries.

However,The ECOWAS leaders say they are willing to fund a diplomatic solution to the crisis but will have to use force as the last resort to return Niger to a Democratic Government.

The current situation in Niger has rendered the residents of Niamey start panic buying of staples like rice, beans, grains and others while others are attempting to flee the country as they are uncertain about the future.
