In a rather funny and bizarre event, an angry Magistrate sitting in Nigeria’s capital territory, Abuja, reportedly ordered policemen at the court to arrest and handcuff a lawyer, Eburu Ekwe Barth, for challenging him on the summary of a case before the court today March 23.
As gathered by GhanaTalksRadio, the Magistrate, Ibrahim Mohammed was making a decision on the application made by the dissident lawyer when he intervened.
The reason for the lawyer’s dissatisfaction was that the magistrate blamed him for what he had never said to him in the ruling. The lawyer further asked whether there was collusion between the magistrate and the plaintiff’s lawyer.
His interjection is said to have angered the magistrate, who immediately ordered his arrest and handed him a sentence for contempt. The judge ignored the requests for mercy from many lawyers present during the proceedings.
The lawyer was taken to Suleja Prison.
