Askira Uba is about 190 kilometers away from the state capital Maiduguri and shares borders with the local government areas of Biu, Chibok, Gwoza and Hawul. The town is also much close to the Sambisa forest – which is known to be the heartland of Boko Haram base.
Since the inception of Boko Haram, alongside its branch Islamic State in West Africa, they have killed thousands and displaced millions in northeastern Nigeria. The terrorist organization wants an Islamic caliph in the area.
