The Nigerian Federal government has extended a congratulatory message to Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Wizkid, who both received their first ever Grammy Awards on the night of Sunday, March 14, 2021.
Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album category while Wizkid won the Best Music Video for his song with Beyoncé; Brown Skin Girl, from Lion King: The Gift album.
In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Adeyemi, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the award represent a global endorsement for the Afrobeat genre of music that has propelled Nigeria’s increasing dominance of the music world.
In a statement sighted by GhanaTalksRadio, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed (Lai Mohammed), through his special media assistant Segun Adeyemi said that the award represents a global recognition of the black African music genre and promotes Nigeria’s dominance in the music industry.
