On Monday, February 15, 2021, the Nigerian police launched a nationwide operation in a move to strengthen the country’s security as it battles with numerous crimes, ranging from banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and other unspeakable violent crimes.
As gathered by GhanaTalksRadio, a statement issued at the Abuja Police Headquarters stated that the police raid codenamed “Operation Puff Adder II” was inspired by deliberate and rigorous assessment of crime patterns and trends in the country.
The statement stated that the operation will consolidate the success and achievements of the “Puff Adder I” operation initiated by the police in April of 2019.

“The new special operation … will be intelligence-led and community-driven,” said the statement, adding that it will be executed in collaboration with the armed forces, the intelligence community and “other sister security agencies.”
The statement further pointed out that the first phase of the operation is aimed at completely restoring peace and security in the country’s northwest and north-central geopolitical regions.
“The operation is aimed at dislodging bandits from their current operational spaces and denying them space to regroup in other parts of the country,” it added. The anti-crime sweep would in due course cover other parts of the country to deal with the “inherent” security challenges.
