The Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) decision to appoint Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles has sparked considerable debate.

Following months of uncertainty, the NFF officially named the German tactician, known for his tenure with Stuttgart, as the permanent head coach of the national team.
NFF Secretary General, Mohammed Sanusi, made the announcement on Tuesday morning. Labbadia joins a list of German coaches who have led the Super Eagles, including Berti Vogts and, more recently, Gernot Rohr.
The 58-year-old Bruno Labbadia’s immediate challenge is to lead the Super Eagles through the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda next month, followed by the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
However, despite the NFF securing a permanent head coach, concerns have been raised about Labbadia’s appointment due to his relative lack of experience, particularly his lack of experience managing a national team.
Nigerians have taken to social media to voice their bewilderment over what many consider an underwhelming appointment of Bruno Labbadia as the Super Eagles head coach.
Here are some reactions from Nigerians who are baffled by the NFF’s decision:
- @Inquisitivejoey on X wrote, “Who is this clown again?”
- @The_godkooper commented, “When will Nigeria ever be serious?”

As more reactions poured in, Nigerians continued to express their disappointment with the NFF’s choice.
