Minority Chief Whip Kwame Governs Agbodza has stated that no airport in Ghana, whether newly built or rehabilitated, is a project initiated by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He explained that the airport expansion projects were initiated under the previous Mahama administration and completed by the NPP.

In an interview with TV3’s Komla Kluyse in Tamale during the NDC’s campaign launch on Saturday, July 27, the Adaklu lawmaker remarked, “There is no airport in Ghana that is the brainchild of the NPP.”

“Kotoka Terminal 2 was rehabilitated by President Mahama, Terminal 3 was brand new by Mahama, and Kumasi Airport the phases that have been completed now were started by Mahama, the NPP came and completed it.

“They have never been the vision of the NPP. Tamale airport, the runway which is the longest runway in the country, and phase II of that had been around. In fact, the loan for the terminal building had been there.

“So this airport [Tamale Airport] cannot be anything to go with the NPP. Otherwise ask them when was the plan for this done.”

Agbodza further stated that the Northern Region has been a crucial area for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He noted that the NDC has received significant support from the region, and in return, the party has contributed to its development whenever it has been in power.

“The northern region is one of the most significant regions in our party history. Our flagbearer comes from this area, we have a lot of support where, we have focused efforts on lifting our people out of poverty in this region by the provision of critical interventions in the past, we are going to do more in the future.

“The most significant things you can see in this region, the roads, the airport, and everything have been part of this. intervention in water supply and agriculture however there is a lot more we need to do God willing when President Mahama becomes the president.

“We know our opponents have been trying to derail us here something but we are going to do whatever is to get them to focus on our messages,” he stated.
