The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will announce his running mate to the public in June, according to Sammi Awuku, a key member of his campaign team 3news.com
Awuku confirmed that Dr. Bawumia has already chosen his running mate for the 2024 general elections.
Despite suggestions that the vice president has been slow to announce his running mate, Awuku emphasized that the NPP is still within its timeline.
He pointed out that Dr. Bawumia was elected as the flagbearer only six months ago, and historically, the party has announced its running mate as late as August, as seen in the 2008 nomination.
Awuku stated that the flagbearer is clear about his choice of running mate and will make the announcement when ready.
He added that Dr. Bawumia is currently focused on campaigning vigorously to face his main rival, John Dramani Mahama, in the elections.
In a related development, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled its presidential running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, for the elections. The general elections are scheduled for December 7, 2024.
