Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to all five aspirants who have successfully filed their nominations to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries.
In a Facebook post shared on Thursday, August 28, Afenyo-Markin praised the aspirants for what he described as a “significant step” in strengthening the NPP’s democratic traditions and reaffirming its commitment to transparent leadership selection.
“I extend my warm congratulations to all the five (5) Presidential Aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) who have successfully filed and submitted their nomination forms,” he wrote.
The five confirmed aspirants, as announced by the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee, are:
- Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
- Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
- Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
- H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
- Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
Afenyo-Markin used the occasion to appeal to all aspirants and their supporters to uphold the values of unity, mutual respect, and discipline throughout the campaign period. He emphasized that internal competition should not come at the expense of party cohesion or national interest.
“As we move into the next phase of the process, I urge all aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns with decorum, unity, and mutual respect,” he stated.
“Let us avoid divisive tendencies and remain focused on the bigger goal of building a stronger NPP and advancing our national development.”
His remarks come amid growing public interest in the flagbearer race, which is expected to be one of the most competitive in the party’s history. With the NPP still recovering from its defeat in the 2024 general elections, party leaders have stressed the importance of unity and strategic planning as they prepare for a comeback in 2028.
Afenyo-Markin concluded his message with a symbolic nod to the NPP’s emblem, reinforcing his belief in the party’s resilience and potential.
“Indeed, the ELEPHANT is a winning symbol!” he declared.
The party’s leadership has assured members and the public of a transparent and credible electoral process, with the Electoral Commission expected to supervise the primaries. As the campaign season unfolds, observers will be watching closely to see how the aspirants navigate the race while maintaining party unity.
